Leggi e scrivi senza problemi, ma appena qualcuno ti chiede dal vivo "So, tell me about yourself", vuoto totale.

"How are you today?", "Did you find us easily?"

  • Esempi concreti. Domande come "Tell me about a time when...".

  • Condizioni.

    1. Tell me about yourself.

"I'm an export area manager with eight years of experience in the food industry. I look after our clients in Germany and Austria, and in the last two years I've grown sales there by 30%. Now I'd like to join a company with a wider international presence."
Consiglio: presente, passato e futuro in un minuto. Non partire dalle superiori.

    2. How would you describe your level of English?

"Upper-intermediate. I have an IELTS score of 6.5, and I use English every day with clients and distributors."

    3. Why do you want to work here?

"Your products are already sold in fifteen countries, and I'd like to help you grow in Northern Europe, where I've worked for eight years."

    4. Why are you leaving your current job?

"I've learnt a lot there, but the company is now focusing on the Italian market, and I'm looking for a more international role."
Consiglio: mai parlare male dell'azienda attuale.

    5. What are your strengths?

"I build long-term relationships. Most of my distributors have worked with me for more than five years."

    6. What is your biggest weakness?

"I used to find it hard to delegate. Now I give clear tasks to our junior colleague and check in once a week instead of every day."

    7. Where do you see yourself in five years?

"Leading the export team for a whole region."

    8. Why should we hire you?

"You need someone who already knows distributors in German-speaking countries. I've worked with them for eight years."

    9. Tell me about a difficult situation at work.

"Our biggest German client wanted to switch to a cheaper supplier (Situation). I had to keep them (Task). I visited them with our quality manager and proposed a new product line (Action). They stayed and increased their orders by 15% (Result)."

    10. Tell me about a mistake you made.

"I once confirmed a delivery date without checking with production, and we were a week late. I apologised, offered a discount, and now I always check first."

    11. How do you handle stress?

"I make a list and start with what matters most. That's how I get through the Christmas season, our busiest time of the year."

    12. Describe a conflict with a colleague.

"A colleague in logistics and I disagreed about shipping costs. We looked at the numbers together and found a carrier that worked for both of us."

    13. Tell me about a project you're proud of.

"I opened the Austrian market from scratch. In two years we went from zero to twelve distributors."

    14. Are you willing to travel or relocate?

"Yes. I'm happy to travel about a week a month, and I'd consider relocating for the right role."

    15. How do you prioritise your work?

"Every morning I check deadlines and impact. Urgent and important comes first, and I block time for focused work."

    16. What do you know about our company?

"You were founded in 1998, you export to fifteen countries, and last year you opened an office in Amsterdam."

    17. What are your salary expectations?

"Based on my experience and the market for this role, I'm looking for around 45,000 euros gross per year."
Consiglio: indica una cifra lorda annua o una forchetta. Più sotto, come gestire la RAL.

    18. When can you start?

"My notice period is one month, so I could start at the beginning of March."

    19. Can you explain the gap in your CV?

"I took a year off to care for a family member, and during that time I completed an online course in digital marketing."
Consiglio: breve, sincero, senza giustificarti troppo.

    20. Do you have any questions for us?

"Yes. What would success look like in this role after six months?" oppure "Who would I work with most?"
Consiglio: prepara sempre almeno una domanda. "No, thank you" sembra disinteresse.

  • Interviewer: Thanks for joining us. So, tell me a bit about yourself.

  • You: I'm an export area manager with eight years of experience in the food industry.

  • Interviewer: What's your biggest achievement so far?

  • You: That's a good question. Let me think for a second... Probably opening the Austrian market. We went from zero to twelve distributors.

  • Interviewer: Interesting. What's your current salary?

  • You: My gross annual salary is 40,000 euros, and I'm looking for around 45,000.

  • Interviewer: And when could you start?

  • You: My notice period is one month, so at the beginning of March.

Il silenzio totale no:

  • That's a good question. Let me think for a second. (Bella domanda, mi lasci pensare un attimo.)

  • Sorry, could you repeat the question? (Scusi, può ripetere la domanda?)

  • Just to make sure I understand: do you mean...? (Per essere sicuro di aver capito: intende...?)

  • What I mean is... (Quello che voglio dire è...)

  • Let me give you an example.

  • "Actually I work in Bologna." "Actually" significa "in realtà". Corretto: "I currently work in Bologna."

  • "I work here since five years." Corretto: "I've been working here for five years."

  • "When I had 25 years, I moved to Milan." Corretto: "When I was 25..."

  • "I'm laureate in Economics." Corretto: "I have a degree in Economics" oppure "I graduated in Economics."

  • "The argument of my thesis was..." "Argument" vuol dire litigio o argomentazione. Corretto: "The topic of my thesis was..."

  • "I pretend a salary of 45,000 euros." "Pretend" significa fingere. Corretto: "I'm looking for 45,000 euros."

  • "It's a great occasion for me." Corretto: "It's a great opportunity for me."

  • "I assisted to a conference." "Assist" significa aiutare. Corretto: "I attended a conference."

  • "Eventually I can travel." "Eventually" significa "alla fine, col tempo". Per "eventualmente": "I can travel if needed."

  • "I'm very sensible to my clients' needs." "Sensible" significa "assennato". Meglio: "I pay close attention to my clients' needs."
  • RAL, preavviso e titoli di studio: come dirli in inglese

  • RAL.

  • Contratto. Tempo indeterminato è "permanent contract", tempo determinato "fixed-term contract", partita IVA "self-employed" o "freelance". Lo stage è "an internship".

  • Titoli. E il 110 e lode: "I graduated with full marks (110/110 cum laude)."
